Your browser will load a Java Applet from our webserver that will help us measuring your link.
This means, you need to have a Java plugin installed in your browser
(If you do not have Java you can download it for free from
here).
The applet will connect to our measurement server which will then send UDP probes to your host.
After the measurement is done, the website will present the inferred bandwidths and queue sizes.
The measurement will take approximately 90 seconds. During this period, your link will be measured with different probes sent at 10Mbps. Thereby, the probes try to saturate your link. Details about our measurement methodology can be found in our IMC'07 paper.
Note, that this tool is meant for broadband hosts only. Also, only hosts with bandwidths lower than 10Mbps can be measured. The measurements will fail for faster hosts. To allow accurate measurements you should stop any large downloads (e.g., BitTorrent) that might run in the background. Furthermore, as the measurement tries to saturate your link, other concurrent traffic on your host will be affected.
